How do I train for FreeWheel?

FreeWheel averages from 50-70 miles of cycling per day for seven days. Riders should be prepared for moderate hills, heat, and headwinds and roads in various states of repair. FreeWheel is a "touring" event; it is not a race! Many ride at a liesurely pace and make frequent stops for rest and off-bicycle activities.

Start early in the spring (now?!) and gradually increase your bicycling endurance. Several area bicycle clubs have organized training programs to help you prepare for FreeWheel in the company of other new riders and veteran FreeWheelers alike. See the current year's web page on this site for links to training/riding calendars of bike clubs in and around Oklahoma.
