What do I do about meals?

You are responsible for all your meals. Each overnight community will sponsor community meals, dinner and breakfasts at a minimal charge. Most communities will have fast food services and restaurants.

Food will be available from numerous sources on the route. Rest stops will be set up by towns and groups along the route. There will be from two to three official fruit stops per day. At these official fruit stops, registered riders have access to free fruit and water. These stops will be announced at the previous evening briefing at each host community. Although rest stops have been planned, there could be unforeseen circumstances that could cause the cancellation of a stop. Always carry at least one water bottle, preferrably two, and drink plenty of water. Whenever available, fill your bottle. NEVER rely on a water stop to be around the next corner.

Hygiene at rest stops and in camp should be on every rider's mind.

  • Remove gloves at rest stops BEFORE filling your water bottle or hydration pack.
  • Pick up fruit and snacks without touching items other than those you're taking.
  • Wash your hands at every opportunity and use waterless cleaner or sanitizer when washing facilities are not available.
  • Wash your bike gloves every night and/or bring extra pairs.

Cleanliness is extremely important and should be a priority for every rider. Don't be shy about prompting fellow riders to follow common sense hygiene habits at rest stops and in camp. It's important to their own health, to yours, and to that of every other rider!
