Nigh Proclaims Free Wheel '79 Week in State

June 5, 1979

Next week is Free Wheel '79 week in Oklahoma - by special proclamation of Gov. George Nigh - in observance of the several hundred bicyclist who will be attempting a 431-mile ride from Texas to Kansas across Oklahoma.

Calling bicycling "healthful, inexpensive and ecologically admirable" and noting that the Tulsa World and Tulsa Wheelmen bicycle club have "cooperated to provide Oklahomas a special week in which to pedal across the Sooner State," Nigh has called June 10-16 "Free Wheel '79 Bicycling Week."

Several seats still are available in a charted bus taking riders to Lake Texoma Saturday for Free Wheel '79, the Tulsa World and Tulsa Wheelmen's 431-mile, week-long bicycle ride across Oklahoma.

Reservations may be made by calling John Allen at MK&O charters.

Bicycles of those riding the bus will be transported without charge by arrangement of Facet Enterprises, the bike club and the World.
